Does compressing an image always reduce quality?
Not if you stay above 70 percent quality. Between 75 and 85 percent the change is invisible on screen while the file shrinks a lot.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The compression runs entirely in your browser using the canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device.
What format should I choose?
WebP gives the smallest files for websites. JPG is the safest choice for forms and older systems.
Why is my compressed file sometimes bigger?
If the original was already heavily compressed, re-compressing at high quality can add data. Lower the quality or resize the dimensions first.
